As I am sharing my week 2 outfits for my summer capsule wardrobe, I have decided to make a few changes to the capsule wardrobe. Additionally, I learned I will need to add a few things to my overall summer wardrobe to make it more functional. So far, I have worn all of my pants and all of my basic top layers. I have yet to wear any dresses, and I’m very curious to see if this will change as the weather warms up or if I simply are not a dress kind a girl in my every-day life. I know I love to wear dresses on warm weather vacations and can’t get enough of them then.
Substitutions to my Summer Capsule Wardrobe:
To make my capsule more functional, I added a light gray cardigan to replace the navy one I included. Summer seems light and airy, and the navy was simply too dark with having mostly medium-deep colored bottoms. Another substitution will be cream/ivory-colored joggers in place of my striped linen pants. During this experience, I really tried to wear my linen pants more, but the wide straight cut simply doesn’t suit me as well as other pants in my closet. I love linen pants and will be adding another pair just in a different style to my closet. I have also learned that solid-colored bottoms are easier to mix and match in a small wardrobe. By no means am I recommending eliminating all patterned bottoms from your wardrobe. Far from it! Simply for this challenge, I’ve found it gives me more options.
What a fun and insightful journey already! I can’t wait what the next two weeks will have in store, especially as the weather is finally getting warmer!
Week 2 Outfits of my Summer Capsule Wardrobe:
green t-shirt, cardigan, black joggers (similar), diaper backpack, black flats, sunglasses, jewelry
striped boyfriend shirt, ankle straight jeans, tan sandals (similar), sunglasses
pink high-neck tank, gray leggings, black joggers (similar), wristlet & wallet, diaper backpack, white sneakers, baseball hat, jewelry
tiered maxi dress, diaper backpack, silver sandals, jewelry
What I’ve learned from Styling my Capsule pieces:
I have honed-in on a few pieces that I really would like to add. A pair of flat sandals that can get me from day to night is high on my list. I think I have found exactly the ones I want, the Huarache sandals by Nisolo in almond colorblock. I am still looking for a great summer sweater and think/light pants to replace my linen pants which I already donated.
Adding fun accessories really can change the feel of the outfit. I am planning on experimenting with this more in the next two weeks. Having well-functioning handbags and backpacks can help a lot staying organized. In the past, I have only used one or two bags regularly as I hate to transfer all the ‘mom’ items I now need. I have started to organize things in pouches so all I have to do is move the pouch that I need.
