Today’s post packing list for one week in Alaska has been a highly requested destination in this series. And it is long overdue! As I have never been to Alaska, yet I want it to be as realistic and helpful as I can make it, I asked a family member for help. She has been living in Alaska for several years and has been a great resource. So today, I am sharing what I’d pack if I’d travel to Alaska for about a week. If you’d travel for longer, make sure to bring additional tops and bottoms.
For accommodations, I am packing for a hotel or Bed & Breakfast stay. My planned activities are nature related, such as visiting a glacier, Denali National Park, but also exploring places along the Kenai River. Thus, I have a lot of hiking pants and casual tops on my Alaska packing list.
Additionally, to the items listed below, I would bring a rain proof jacket with a hood. I love these little earmuffs to wear under my jacket hood, but most likely would also bring a beanie.
Blue Tank, cranberry t-shirt, plum long-sleeve t-shirt, navy fleece jacket, jeans, gray leggings, gray joggers, gray hiking pants, jean shorts, swimsuit, birkenstock sandals, hiking sandals, sneakers, hiking boots, bucket hat, sunglasses, belt bag, backpack
I have linked the hiking boots I’d pick with this travel palette. I highly recommend for hiking shoes to pick based on fit rather than color and not to eliminate any simply because they are not in your color palette. For hiking boots, fit is the most important aspect. This is one item for which I buy the best quality I can find. I have had my hiking boots for more than 10 years; they have traveled with me to numerous countries and research trips; and I am already dreading the day I’ll need new ones.
Hiking pants can do double duty as long pants and shorts. I usually select some where the shorts hit me mid-thigh as that is where the zipper doesn’t bother me. I highly recommend trying on several different styles and heights of the shorts cut-off.
My travel outfit would be a more casual one as well. the selected backpack would double as my personal item, it fits on most airlines as long as you don’t pack it full and have room to squeeze it.
