Week 1 of my June capsule wardrobe challenge in the books. As I am recapping my first summer capsule wardrobe week 1 outfits, I am learning valuable lessons and I can already identify several things that I want to add to my wardrobe. So far, I have worn all off my pants as temperatures weren’t very warm. My tops are geared toward easy layering, and I have worn some of my tops twice, and some I have not yet reached for at all. Let’s see what the rest of June has in store. I’m not sure if this is simply due to the weather, or my preference.
What I have learned so far:
My current lifestyle calls for a simple easy style; and clothes made of easily washable natural fabrics. A limited wardrobe has challenged me to keep my clothes clean or wash them more often. Ideally, I have two options of each so one can be washed, and I still have one clean similar option.
While my life calls for easy and simple pieces, I like a slightly more elevated look. I’ll try to add a few t-shirts and tops that are simple but either some kind of elevated style element and see if that will help me feel more like me, while still allowing me to dress for my current lifestyle.
I’m lacking in some accessories that fit my new colors, and I like classic and simple jewelry. These are things I’ll slowly start adding to my wardrobe. Ideally, these are items I can wear gear round.
Week 1 Outfits of my Summer Capsule Wardrobe
Day 1
My first look: a classic T-shirt paired with straight ankle jeans. I love the balance the medium wash jeans add to the pop of pink of my T-shirt. To dress it up a bit I’d add some cute summer sandals, a cute purse or a belt bag, and maybe some statement earrings. A cute watch would also add interest to the look.
Day 2
I really love how this look came together. A simple outfit, very comfortable, and I love how the pink tank top adds just the right pop of color for summer. Perfect outfit to run errands and a play date.
Day 3
Outfit details: pink tank, linen pants, sandals, baseball cap, necklace, bracelet
I didn’t think I’d like this outfit, but I love it. The blue striped linen pants give a nice neutral base to add a pop of color with the pink tank top and a teal cropped sweater. I like how the lighter golden sandals, ivory hat and the bright teal earrings pull everything together.
Day 4
Outfit details: baseball cap, jeans, sneakers
Sundays are spent at the baseball park watching daddy play in a local league. Items in a capsule are limited and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to include my baseball sweatshirt and T-shirt in my capsule wardrobe, or if it will only be a onetime exception. I’m still deciding but have included it for now.
As I had a diaper bag, I didn’t add any other accessories. This outfit would also be cute with a belt bag. There is this super cute diaper belt bag which is a great option for short outings.
Day 5
Outfit details: sweater (old), black jogger, diaper bag
One of my favorite simple looks, a jogger and a slightly cropped sweater. I chose a half-zip sweater for my capsule as in my opinion, it adds something a little extra. Adding a fun and cute diaper bag that can also double as a purse or backpack is a plus.
Day 6
Today, I chose a simple outfit: T-shirt, shorts, and sandals. I later switched to my EVA Birkenstock for some cleaning in the yard. If you look closely, this is not my pink t-shirt I included in the capsule. It’s already a substitute as my other T-shirt was already soiled by the time I took the photo. This is also the day I realized, having an additional option that’s very similar is key.
What I’d change:
I’d love to add a more fitted pink t-shirt to my closet as I think it would really take this outfit from casual to a little more elevated. Additionally, I’d add some accessories. I think a belt bag and layered necklaces would be perfect for this outfit.
Day 7
Outfit details: graphic t-shirt, cardigan, joggers (similar), sandals
Another cooler day and I substituted black jeans for black joggers. Hopefully, I will not regret this by the end of the month! I love the contrast between the graphic T-shirt and the dark pants. Adding a light-colored top layer brightens the simple outfit.
What I’d change:
As the graphic t-shirt and joggers are already slouchier, the longer and more oversized cardigan adds too much bulk. A cute cotton sweater or a shorter chunky yet structured know cardigan seems a better option. Another item to add to my closet!
Items I am missing in my summer capsule wardrobe to maximize functionality and my style preferences:
As I am creating outfits for my first summer capsule wardrobe, I already wish for some great summer sweater as options. I like how easy it is to just throw on a cardigan, just don’t like the look of it with most outfits. So, I’ll be trying to add at least one sweater and one cardigan that is a chunky, yet structured lien a sweater. In the last I have always liked cream or nautical themes for summer. Neither are best color options for me. I’ll have to pay more attention to what lighter color would be a great neutral option.
Biggest question: can I find those pieces that I am hoping to add to my summer capsule wardrobe? If these sound like some of your challenges, follow along as I share more of my experience with my First Summer Capsule Wardrobe.
