For the past 5 years I have transitioned my everyday minimalist makeup routine to clean beauty products. It took me a long time to find products that I really love and look forward to using every day. Over the past 2 years I have really been able to create a curated routine filled with well performing and clean products I really love.
I grew up in a home where we would mainly use non-toxic products. As I grew older, I went down the rabbit hole of conventional beauty products filled with all the nasties. I believed I needed those if I wanted well performing products. Oh, how I was wrong. Once I switched back, my skin became luminous and alive again. All those wonderful skin beneficial ingredients of my clean products allow my skin to shine without much make-up.
Must haves for products to become part of my clean minimalist makeup routine
Over the years, I have tried so many products and not all lived up to my standards. In order for a product to become part of my clean makeup routine, they have to:
- be long lasting and work well,
- be made without toxic, chemical, or harmful ingredients,
- and be affordable (not cost a million dollars, or run out in just a few uses).
A bonus if products are easily available and can be replenished without much hassle or spending a ton on shipping. The products must also have a good color range, as I have become very particulate about the colors I’m choosing. If a lip or cheek product has several shades that I like and fulfills all other requirements, I’ll gravitate to this product much more over one that only has one option.
My 5 Minute Make-up Routine & product description
Most days, I opt for an easy and fast routine that allows me to feel put together without much effort. to achieve best results, I prep my skin with my daily beauty routine. After letting those products set, I use the following products in the order as described below:
Sunscreen & Foundation:
Most summer days I opt for my tried and true tinted moisturizer Slip Tint Dewy Moisturizer SPF 35. I love that it does double duty and also gives me enough coverage so that I don’t need to apply extra foundation. The coverage is light to medium and evens out my skin and adds a nice glow. A lightweight formula that is also hydrating makes it perfect for everyday use.
Best Clean Concealer:
Next, I apply concealer to brighten my tired “mommy” undereyes as I like to call them. Since Beautycounter discontinued their concealer due to packaging issues, I have been using The True Skin Serum Concealer by Ilia. A very is light weight concealer, that can be applied many different ways (I love using my fingers). It does not crease on me even if I don’t set it.
Clean Brow products:
I have stopped filling in my brows during the summer but for some reason found it really has been a game changer in the winter. It brings out my eyes and adds a nice soft definition to my face. The Brow Pop Clean Dual-Action Defining eyebrow pencil by Kosas is my favorite. It offers so many different color options. They neutral brown is perfect for my complexion.
My Favorite Clean Mascaras:
Clean Mascara has been a little harder to find. The Ilia Fullest Volumizing Mascara adds nice volume to my lashes without leaving a clumpy mess and does not flake or smudge by the end of the day. For more dramatic lashes I also like the Honest Beauty Extreme Length 2-in-1 Mascara and Lash Primer. It gives me great volumized and defined lashing for a dramatic effect. For everyday I like the Ilia mascara a little better as it is easier to take off, and making getting ready at night easier is always a plus.
My Everyday Clean Blushes:
I don’t apply blush every day. In the summer I rotate between my two favorites Cream Blushes. Cream blushes seem to melt better into my skin and blend in nicely with my dewy tinted moisturizer. Both also apply really well over just sunscreen. I reach for Beautycounter’s blush in Rosebud or Havana depending if I want a rosy cheek or a light pink flush.
Lily Lolo makes my favorite pressed powder blush. I like the color “In the Pink” during the colder months. It gives that natural flush look. For summer, I like a slightly deeper tone and “coming up Roses” is a perfect medium matte rose pink.
Everyday Clean Makeup: Lip Products
Favorite Lip Gloss: I like lip glosses that feel moisturizing with a nice amount of color without feeling sticky. Ilia Balmy Gloss Tinted Lip Oil in ‘Linger’ and ‘Only You’ are my favorite. They take a few minutes to adjust to my lips, but then they turn into the perfect pink tones for my complexion. I’m not sure how this works, but some magic is going on between the lip oil and my skin that causes it to change into the perfect pink tone.
Favorite Tinted Lip Balm: Kosas LipFuel Hyaluronic Lip Balm in Rush adds a perfect amount of color and moisture.
