Walking has been one of my favorite ways to move my body and to get some fresh air! To eliminate the stress of figuring out what to wear, I have created athleisure outfit uniforms that can all me mixed and matched. For my 5 favorite early fall athleisure outfit looks, I chose many classic workout and lounge pieces and mix and matched them for fun outfits. I created outfits to fit the transition from summer to fall in the Midwest, when some mornings are warm, others a bit chilly.
My 5 favorite early fall athleisure Outfits:
The 5 outfit formulas I have chosen can easily re-created with items in your closet. It is super easy to exchange the color palette, or style of tops and bottoms. I have included some ideas for each look below:
Biker Shorts & Thin Sweater
Outfit details: Biker Shorts, Thin Sweater
I love the versatility of this sweatshirt as it can easily be paired with biker shorts or leggings when it gets cooler. If biker shorts aren’t your preference, a flowy sweatshirt also looks cute with joggers. To give it structure, I tuck the sweatshirt slightly to one side. I often just wear a bralette under the sweatshirt, or a tighter fitting tank top when it’s a little cooler. Bonus, the sweatshirt looks cute with a lacy bralette peeking out; or paired with jean shorts tucked in the front. Super easy outfit to transition for running errands or lounging at home too.
If a flowy sweatshirt like this one isn’t your thing, I also love styling this look with an oversized crew sweatshirt. American Giant makes one of my favorite classic sweatshirts. To get an oversized feel, I simply go up a size or two.
Biker Shorts & Graphic T-shirt
Outfit details: biker shorts
I am super surprised how much I love my biker shorts from Pact Clothing. Originally, I was only going to wear them under dresses, a must with toddlers in my option. Yet, they quickly became a favorite to wear for walks or playing in the yard too. The biker shorts are super soft and comfortable yet suck you in in all the right places. The pockets hold my phone comfortably which is great when you want to be hands free. I love pairing them with oversized T-shirts and sweaters. Once again, for colder days, I simply style the oversized t-shirt with leggings.
Additionally, graphic and slightly oversized t-shirts can easily be paired with joggers. I love tying the tops or tucking them in for added structure and interest. This way you can eliminate biker shorts or leggings if those are not your style preference.
If you are a crop top lover, biker shorts are so cute with a longer bralette or crop top too. I’d pick a contrast color for a statement, or a matching color for a monochrome pairing. Monochrome looks are so on trend and always add polished feel especially if the color matches.
Athletic Shorts & Racerback Top
Outfit details: Athletic shorts (similar), racerback top
I love a good fitting pair of athletic shorts for working out in the summer. Naturally, they were one of my first choice for athleisure outfits too. I have had mine for years and are no longer available. Additionally, I don’t buy from Nike anymore, so I linked a similar very affordable option that is made from recycled plastic. Usually, I pair athletic shorts with tank tops.
I love this Amazon top as it has a supportive shelf-bra with removable cups. Generally, I found it easy to find good sustainable options for my workout clothes. Sport bras, bralettes, and tanks with built in bras has been one area where I have struggled. I prefer built in cups over double lined options which has been super hard to find in the sustainable world. I hope it changes soon! I’d love to have sustainable options as it sits right on my skin.
Leggins & Tank Top
Outfit details: Leggings, Tank Top (similar)
I love the slightly crisper mornings of Late summer, and leggings are the perfect option and a staple in my closet. Actually, I love wearing them year-round, dressing them up or down, and they are perfect for lounging at home or running a quick errand. I am wearing my favorite leggings for fall. They are organic cotton, a little thicker without being restrictive and ethically made. You could easily pair an athletic tank top with joggers or other sweatpants as well. I’d choose a slightly more fitted one, or make sure to tuck it in for a more structured look.
Joggers & Racerback Top
Outfit details: Joggers, racerback tank
This look is a classic and great for active activities. If you prefer a different top, the options with joggers seem endless. A cute T-shirt or tank top are favorites of mine. I like to tuck them in to elevate the look. To transform this look for errands or a brunch, I love adding a jacket over top and swap the sneakers for mules or loafers. For one of my favorite looks, I love to pair joggers with a slightly shorter and more fitted 3/4th zip sweatshirt.
My favorite joggers are these ‘airplane joggers’ by Pact clothing. They are 100% organic cotton, super soft, but keep their shape really well. I can’t tell you how many times I have washed them, at least once a week and they are still looking as good as new. For sizing, I sized down one size for a more fitted look but could have done my regular size too. Hoping to be able to purchase the charcoal ones for this fall. I’ll keep you updated on that…
Favorite Athleisure shoes
In all of my 5 favorite early fall athleisure outfits I am wearing my go-to sneakers for walking or hiking. I have had these sneakers for 3 years now and they are still going strong. Super comfortable, lightweight and not bulky looking. Essentially, these are my athleisure shoes I don’t mind getting dirty. I washed them in the washing machine a few times as well, and they’ve come out great every time. I simply put them in a shoe washing bag and wash on delicate or hand wash cycle.
Now, I hope you’ll create your own favorite athleisure capsule for early fall, and I hope some of my styling inspiration is useful and helpful to you. Give yourself grace and have fun finding outfit combos that work for you.
